Concept Pitch

Speaking from experience, 5 things i want to communicate to next years students:

01. Crawl before you walk, to explore your new environment by drinking with your fellow peers eccessively.
02. Conversation breakers?
03. Things to do besides the course?
04. You dont need to know everything yet.
05. Who are the 2nd/3rd years?

The Problem i Identified: There is a lack of a creative community vibe within the course, i had no idea where to seek inspiration and asking other people what graphic design work they were undertaking was difficult, concequently i felt not good enough to be there, intimidated and out of place.

Message: You dont need to know everything yet

Design Solution: A form of outlet for LCAD Graphic Design students to exhibit their work for other students, whether it be final pieces, development, inspiration or even exploration work.

Keywords/Tone of Voice: educational, inspiring, design, current, news, explorative, image/text, layout, experience, communication, light-hearted, collaboration, type.

"...the hardest part..."

slightly less vintage and definetly something that it more to my style, this illustrator i really really love and the first image is by far my favourite. ive definitly take to image making quite well and i feel that if i work at it i could be very strong with it. the hardest part would probably be finding the imagery aside from that i feel that from the Type & Grid workshop i am becoming more and more confident at layout and even the consideration of structure within my own images. These images came from Paananen's portfolio which were experimental but i love them more than some of her other work.

hehe funky robots! on the theme of vintage i came across these images from an illustrator and through looking at his other work he seems to use this styling continually. i love it, the concentric rings give it that antique television image feel aswell as the muted colours and shapes of course. i really like it, vintage made modern in his words. his prints are available to buy and i found a really nice site called etsy.com which is a fantastic site where you can buy handmade articles and prints. definitly check this one out if you are looking to decorate.

"...the swing of things..."

after taking a few days out i felt it necessary to get back into the swing of things by completing some of my own investigation and general design of things so i decided to go back to the don't panic site to which i had previously not entered and chose to enter the competition for the next poster based on the concept of 'Government'. and such a wide subject matter it was, government controls everything in politics it was so hard to pin something down without coming back to the obvious, the prime minister. argh! very frustrating times indeed and so i tried hard to pin something down and there it was, the recent G20 events were exactly what i needed and so i set about looking at these and what stuff actually goes on during that time and i ended up coming across an article in the times which headlined "G20 summit: lucky Gordon Brown basks in market glory" and that got me intrigued in the idea of luck itself and the ideas that government requires a bit of luck to be successful. was it a bit of luck that got gordon brown to where he is today? do their policies and laws require luck to be successful? incidents that help at the time which are completely uncontrollable. anyway indeed working on this idea of luck i created an image wporkign on that idea and my main idea was about creating an image of a grabbing machine in which godon brown luckily manages to be lifted out. definitly a representation of luck.

"...claiming vintage imagery..."

being obsessed lately about claiming vintage imagery i have stumbled upon a fantastic collage illustrator. very simple ideas and imagery which he has taken and layered together to make the image suit his needs. i love the craft and the way the characters interact even though they may not neccessarily be from the same image. fascinating stuff.
